DAY 2 | SÁMI CULTURE & SNOWMOBILING
SÁMI CULTURE BY SNOWMOBILE
This snowmobile safari will take us across the frozen Lake Inari, also known as the Sámi sea, to some of the historical sites of the surrounding area. We will visit what was once the old Sámi winter village centre in Pielpajärvi, where now only the wilderness church remains. We will also pay our respects to the rugged ancient Sámi sacrificial island, Ukonkivi, or ‘Ukko’s Rock’. During the safari we will take a break and enjoy coffee and snacks by the open fire.
Duration: 4 hrs
VISIT TO SIIDA SÁMI MUSEUM
After the snowmobiling trip you can continue to visit the Siida Sámi Museum independently. Siida is a window into Sámi culture and the diverse nature of Northern Lapland. At Siida you can get acquainted with changing exhibitions on culture, art and nature throughout the year. The museum restaurant Sarrit serves customers on the second floor.
UNDER THE NORTHERN LIGHTS WITH REINDEER
In the evening you will experience a truly unique and atmospheric way to travel into the winter night, sitting back comfortably in the sleigh and staring at the sky while the reindeer quietly tread through the snow. If you’re really lucky and the sky is clear you may even see the magical Aurora Borealis. During the trip there will be a break where you can warm yourselves with a hot drink by the open fire while your host shares tales of his reindeer and the magical lights.
Duration 1.5 hrs including transfers
DAY 3 | HUSKIES & SNOWSHOEING
Did you ever imagine that you could drive your own dog sled? You will be picked up from your accommodation in the morning and driven to meet the energetic huskies, who will be eagerly waiting to take you on a ride into the white wilderness. The mushers may ask you to help them harness the dogs and will then show how to steer them through the forest and on the frozen waters. You can warm up by the open fire with coffee before being transferred back to your accommodation.
Duration 2.5-3 hrs including transfers
SNOWSHOE TRIP INTO THE LAND OF THE NORTHERN LIGHTS
Snowshoeing is probably the most peaceful way to go in search of the dancing auroras. Your guide will pick you up in the evening and take you to the departure point, from where you will hike with your guide into the quiet darkness. The feeling of witnessing the magical lights when surrounded by nature is one that will stay with you forever, that is if you’re lucky enough for them to appear. And if the hiking doesn’t keep you warm, some hot juice will.
Duration 2,5 hrs including transfers
DAY 4 | CROSS COUNTRY SKIING & AURORA HUNTING
CROSS COUNTRY SKI SCHOOL
Before roads, cars and snowmobiles the only way to get around in Lapland in winter was on skis and sleighs! Learn to get around like the locals and experience the freedom of cross-country skiing. Our guide will teach you the basics of using cross country skis in a safe environment, before you go out and test your newly learnt skills
Duration 2 hrs including transfers
AURORA SNOWMOBILE EXPEDITION
In the evening your guide will pick you up from our accommodation. With its remote location in the far North away from the bright lights of big cities, Inari is an ideal place for observing the Northern Lights. Once it’s dark, your guide will take you away from the village glow to a location with the best view of the sky that night. If the weather and luck are on our side, you should get to witness nature’s own magical dancing light show! Picnic snack will be provided to warm you up.
